Krøyers Plads Apartment

Among 18th-century warehouses on Christianshavn’s harbour front in central Copenhagen, Cobe and Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects created the award-winning Krøyers Plads project, the first housing development in Denmark to earn a Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Krøyers Plads is a reinvention of the neighbouring industrial warehouses that combines residential and commercial space in an architectural project comprised of three independent buildings.

Krøyers Plads Apartment is raised high above the water with a sweeping view of history. A beautiful flat, decorated with vintage finds, art and Dinesen Douglas floors, which has been transformed from a raw, white space to a home with an interior and an atmosphere that celebrate Nordic nature.

This bright, harmonious flat is situated on the city square Krøyers Plads, surrounded by old and new architecture. From its high perch, the spacious 234-sqm flat overlooks the Royal Danish Playhouse on one side and the historical harbour-front warehouses on the other.

The fascinating interior is the result of thoughtful and deliberate choices, its treasures well-curated. A tour of the flat offers pleasant sensory experiences and tactile surfaces, from the floor to the walls, with soft and hard materials interacting and complementing each other.

The interior design reflects a fascination with Nordic nature, and the owner has explained that her goal was to create an atmosphere that brings her closer to nature, despite the urban setting.

Inside, delicate colour shades form a neutral canvas that reflect the outside light, multiplied by reflections from the water. In an interplay with the clouds in the sky, the interior is defined by soft furniture and gauzy curtains that act as room dividers and filter the light.

Materials such as wood and stone are also a subtle nod to nature. The floors are made of Dinesen Douglas Classic and inspired several design choices using wood, including the artistic birch and pinewood lamps and the unique stool ‘Off-Cut Chair 02’ made from Dinesen Douglas offcuts and designed by Pettersen and Hein. The Picment wallpaper, too, was selected for its bark-like surface texture.

‘The feature that initially attracted me, at first glance, was the floors. The thick, wide, long Dinesen Douglas planks really spoke to me and sparked a desire to create an interior that would bring me back to nature. ’
