Vipp has established its stateside domicile in a former factory building from 1883 with 4-metre-tall ceilings, solid steel constructions and raw brick walls in the middle of Manhattan, New York City. The interior is almost unrecognizable, but the basic structure remains unchanged. The 5th-floor apartment is not only testimony to a world-class design transformation but also introduces a new concept, where showroom, domicile and private residence are perfectly balanced.
Sofie Christensen Egelund, her husband, Frank Christensen Egelund, their two children and a golden retriever now welcome clients in a cosy and extraordinary home.
The couple personally designed the interior, with Raëd Abillama Architects consulting on aesthetic choices and the basic elements.
Seventeen large window sections overlooking New York’s SoHo district provide the perfect lighting for the diverse textures in the rooms: classic New York brick, exposed ceiling joists, curtains from Kvadrat, padded walls, steel and Dinesen HeartOak floors.
‘We have purposely made the HeartOak Dinesen floor a very prominent design element in our Vipp Studio. We are playing with more subtle accents - like different textures and more of a tone-on-tone colour palette on walls and ceiling. The warmth of the solid HeartOak floor with its beautiful butterfly joints bring it all together and complements our modular kitchen perfectly. Honestly, Dinesen and Vipp are all about craftsmanship, attention to detail and being timeless – so it was a way to practice what we preach.’
