CC residence was designed by ECRU Studio. ‘Ecru’ means ’beige’ or ’unbleached’ in French and reflects the studio’s ethos of balance and timelessness – values that also form the core of CC residence. Founded by the former antique dealer Jin Chen, ECRU Studio often uses iconic mid-century French and Italian furniture in its projects – and CC residence is no exception.

Furniture and art offer a counterpoint to the robust, almost unfinished shell with its exposed wooden beams, textured gypsum walls and Dinesen Oak floors, which add to warm quality of the space. The interior strikes a clear contrast to the bustling urban scene around it, with an aesthetic that mentally transports the occupants to a  countryside retreat. Dinesen Oak floors are used throughout the 220-square-metre flat, bringing atmospheric warmth to the rooms and drawing nature’s sensuous qualities into the home.

The concept behind CC residence is to explore the deliberate tension between old and new, mediated by soft colour notes and tactile materials.

‘Our design process is about adding layers and layers but paring back to the minimum at the same time to create simplicity and achieve a sense of harmony,’ says Jin Chen.

The flat features an eclectic selection of furniture, art, sculptures and lighting in a design setting that is itself simple and straightforward.

‘The vibe is rustic, primitive, yet modern,’ says Jin Chen.
